Get Clue

The Palace started to be built in 1798:. And receives a Neoclassic reform project in 1802.

Until today only 1/3 of that project was concluded,  That's why is still referred by Portuguese:  the palace in need for help.. (Ajuda means help in Portuguese) 

It becomes Royal Residence, for Luís I and Maria Pia (1861-1889) by accession to the throne, and remained as such until the end of the Monarchy, in 1910. 

The king and Queen, had two princes, Carlos and Afonso,, several times were found by servents hidden on the roof or skating on the ground floor, where the Music Room onwards, the private apartments can be found. 

 

State Rooms occupy the upper floor where balls, banquets and court ceremonies took place by its unique collections of decorative artworks that remain truthful to its origins until today. 

 

The most important State ceremonies held by the President of the Republic still take place here.
